Gas Technician 3
Gas Technician is the “H” in HVAC. There are 3 main levels of Gas Technician licensing (G3, G2, G1). The equipment you can work on includes furnaces, water heaters, stoves, clothes dryers, pool heaters, fireplaces, and many more. This includes residential, commercial, and industrial.
Gas Technician 3 Course
The Gas Technician 3 certification is the first level needed to start a career in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. For more details on each course, please see the course information below.
Gas Technician 3 Course Information

| Description | This is an entry level program for those who wish to start a career or upgrade their skills in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. It is a 19 week program where students will take part in both theoretical and practical studies by alternating one week in class with one week in the field at a local co-op placement company. A Gas Technician 3 (G3) licence will enable you to work under supervision on any natural gas or propane fired equipment. Upgrading to a Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence will enable you to install, inspect, alter, purge, activate, repair, service or remove a natural gas or propane appliance that has an input of 400,000 Btuh or less without supervision in residential and commercial applications. Examples: Furnaces, Fireplaces, Water Heaters, Pool Heaters, Stoves, Clothes Dryer, etc. As part of the program we also offer job search assistance. |
| Course Outline | This program covers the G3 and G2 modules 1 to 24 and the applicable codes, acts and regulations. This program will provide you with hands on skills, contacts in the industry, on the job experience and full knowledge of the skills, safety procedures and theories you will require as a Gas Technician certificate holder. |
| Exam | The theory and practical examinations will be administered by HiMark at our location upon completion of the course. |
| Pre-requisite | Have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; OR Be at least 18 years of age and pass a superintendent approved qualifying test |

| Description | This program does not require approval under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. A Gas Technician 3 (G3) licence will enable you to work under supervision on any natural gas or propane fired equipment. Examples: Furnaces, Fireplaces, Water Heaters, Pool Heaters, Stoves, Clothes Dryer, etc. |
| Course Outline | This program is a quick theory review of the G3 modules 1 to 9 and the applicable codes, acts and regulations. It is intended for individuals who would like to challenge the certification exam or are struggling to pass the certification exam and wish to refresh their knowledge of the G3 modules. There is no practical training included in this course. It is not a full course and will not help students whose course training has expired or already attempted and failed the certification exam 3 times. |
| Exam | The theory examination can be given by HiMark at our location upon completion of the course. For individuals who are challenging, the practical examination must be given by a T.S.S.A. Fuels Safety Inspector and arranged through T.S.S.A. by the student. |
| Pre-requisite | None. However, individuals without previous experience are highly recommended to take the full course (Gas Technician 3 Evening or Gas Technician 3 Co-op). |
