Gas Technician 2
Gas Technician is the “H” in HVAC. There are 3 main levels of Gas Technician licensing (G3, G2, G1). The equipment you can work on includes furnaces, water heaters, stoves, clothes dryers, pool heaters, fireplaces, and many more. This includes residential, commercial, and industrial.
Gas Technician 2 Courses
The Gas Technician 2 certification allows you to work independently on equipment up to 400,000 btuh and is for individuals who are looking to upgrade their skills in the HVAC industry. There is a new pre-requisite for students wishing to attend the Gas Technician 2 Co-op or Gas Technician 2 Evening course. For more details, please see course information below.
Gas Technician 2 Course Information

| Description | This is an entry level program for those who wish to start a career or upgrade their skills in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. It is a 19 week program where students will take part in both theoretical and practical studies by alternating one week in class with one week in the field at a local co-op placement company. A Gas Technician 3 (G3) licence will enable you to work under supervision on any natural gas or propane fired equipment. Upgrading to a Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence will enable you to install, inspect, alter, purge, activate, repair, service or remove a natural gas or propane appliance that has an input of 400,000 Btuh or less without supervision in residential and commercial applications. Examples: Furnaces, Fireplaces, Water Heaters, Pool Heaters, Stoves, Clothes Dryer, etc. As part of the program we also offer job search assistance. |
| Course Outline | This program covers the G3 and G2 modules 1 to 24 and the applicable codes, acts and regulations. This program will provide you with hands on skills, contacts in the industry, on the job experience and full knowledge of the skills, safety procedures and theories you will require as a Gas Technician certificate holder. |
| Exam | The theory and practical examinations will be administered by HiMark at our location upon completion of the course. |
| Pre-requisite | Have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent; OR Be at least 18 years of age and pass a superintendent approved qualifying test |

| Pre-requisite | Have a valid Gas Technician 3 (G3) license. Valid Working at Heights Certificate. NEW Proof of Eligibility: Depending on how your obtained your G3 license: 1. If obtained G3 license by attending an accredited TSSA G3 program, which contains both theory and practical training, you must provide proof of completion for the G3 program. 2. If obtained G3 license by challenging the exam without taking an accredited TSSA G3 program, you must provide a letter on a company letterhead stating that you have accumulated a minimum of 450 working hours since attaining your G3 license. |

| Description | This program does not require approval under the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005. A Gas Technician 2 (G2) licence will enable you to install, inspect, alter, purge, activate, repair, service or remove a natural gas or propane appliance that has an input of 400,000 Btuh or less without supervision in residential and commercial applications. Examples: Furnaces, Fireplaces, Water Heaters, Pool Heaters, Stoves, Clothes Dryer, etc. As part of the program we also offer job search assistance. |
| Course Outline | This program is a quick theory review of the G2modules 10 to 24 and the applicable codes, acts and regulations. It is intended for individuals who would like to challenge the certification exam or are struggling to pass the certification exam and wish to refresh their knowledge of the G2 modules. There is no practical training included in this course. It is not a full course and will not help students whose course training has expired or already attempted and failed the certification exam 3 times. |
| Exam | The theory examination will be given by HiMark at our location upon completion of the course. For challenge exams, the practical examination must be given by a T.S.S.A. Fuels Safety Inspector and arranged through T.S.S.A. by the student. |
